A South Carolina man died months after being shot and police say the suspect has officially been charged with his murder.
On Jan. 28, a shooting was reported around 8:30 a.m. to the Aiken Department of Public Safety.
Once officers arrived at the scene, they found 71-year-old Henry Mixon with gunshot wounds, police said.
Mixon was transported to a hospital for treatment, police said.
Shortly after the shooting, investigators arrested and charged Derrick Donnell Dunbar, 47, with attempted murder, WIS News 10 reported.
On May 25, the Aiken Department of Public Safety announced Mixon died on May 13 as a result of his gunshot injuries.
Because of Mixon’s death, officials announced that the charges against Dunbar were upgraded to murder.
Mixon was booked into the Aiken County Jail after his initial arrest and remains there today without bond. In South Carolina, only a circuit court judge can set bond on a murder charge.
