Special needs athlete killed and left along an Arizona road. Police say they arrested his killer.
A member of an Arizona Special Olympics team was shot, killed and left along the road. Now, police say they have arrested his suspected killer.
Scott Harkness was found dead on Feb. 6, according to police in Scottsdale, Arizona. AZFamily.com reported Harkness, 59, was found shot along the side of the road around 1 a.m.
Investigators said Harkness walked through the area on his way home.
Harkness was a member of the special needs community and a participant with the Scottsdale Special Olympics team, the Bobcats.
Investigators identified John Merryman as a suspect and last week went to his home to serve a search warrant. Police recovered a weapon near the crime scene that was forensically linked to both men.
Merryman was arrested without incident, according to Scottsdale police. He was booked into Maricopa County jail and charged with first-degree murder.
Police have not said what caused Merryman to allegedly shoot Harkness.
