Stepson Allegedly Shot Stepmom When She Went to Hug Him at High School Graduation in New Mexico: Cops

A New Mexico man allegedly showed up to a high school graduation ceremony and shot his stepmother in the neck, law enforcement said.
Officers recently responding to the report of a shooting at the Convention Center in Albuquerque found a woman suffering from a gunshot wound to the neck, according to the Albuquerque Police Department.
The victim was transported to a local hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
According to authorities, the woman was attending the graduation ceremony of her son when the suspect, identified as 21-year-old Cristian Bencomo, showed up at the event.
Bencomo shot the woman in the neck when she went to give him a hug, and bystanders restrained him until police arrived, police said.
The suspect was arrested and faces multiple charges, including aggravated battery, aggravated assault, preventative detention, and two counts of unlawful carrying of a weapon.

KRQE-TV spoke with the victim’s sister, who claimed Bencomo allegedly stomped on the victim’s head after she fell down.
The victim is reportedly in critical but stable condition. Her sister said, “I keep thinking that it’s a bad dream that I’ll wake up from.”
