South Carolina Woman On Heroin, Fentanyl Accused Of Murder After Stillbirth Of Son, Police Say
A pregnant South Carolina woman was arrested after she did drugs and the baby boy she was carrying died, authorities said.
On April 24, authorities in North Augusta arrested Erin Grandy, 31, in connection with the stillbirth of her baby last summer, WRDW-TV reported, citing an incident report.
According to authorities, Grandy used fentanyl and heroin before she began to experience heavy vaginal bleeding and was admitted to Piedmont August Hospital around 9:40 p.m. on July 6, 2022.
While at the facility, the prospective mother allegedly told medical staff that she had recently done drugs, police said.
Doctors determined Grandy’s placenta had detached from her womb, and she lost her baby during an emergency C-section, The Augusta Press reported.

She was booked into the Aiken County jail and now faces a charge of homicide by child abuse, according to authorities.
If found guilty of the count against her, Grandy could be sentenced to as much as 20 years to life behind bars.
