Suspects Stealing Catalytic Converter Use Saw to Attack Man Sleeping in Car, Cops Say

A Rhode Island man was allegedly assaulted with a saw after he confronted thieves trying to steal his vehicle’s catalytic converter, according to authorities.
On April 29, police were called to an area in Mt. Pleasant for a report of an assault, according to GoLocalProv.
Once at the scene, officers met with the victim, a male in his 30s. The victim said he was sleeping in his vehicle when he heard a grinding noise underneath him, GoLocalProv reported.
According to the victim, he saw two people under his car. The victim approached them, which is when he was allegedly struck with a pipe by one of the suspects, while the other suspect possibly used a saw to harm him.

The victim said the suspects then fled, according to police. He was taken to a nearby hospital for his injuries.
Detectives are currently investigating the incident.
