An early morning shooting in Tampa as bars closed for the night left one dead and a 21-year-old man facing a murder charge.
This week, Tampa police announced they arrested Jatony Tykeese Torres, 21, on a first-degree premeditated murder charge.
Around 3 a.m. on Oct. 23, as bars were closing in the Tampa area, police said a fight broke out near North 16th Street and East 7th Avenue.
Torres attacked and shot the victim, a 20-year-old man, hitting him in the upper body, police said.
The victim was taken to the hospital, where he later died. The victim’s name has not been released.
Investigators did not say what led to the shooting.
Police working nearby as the bars closed, were able to chase and catch the suspect, authorities said. He was initially charged with aggravated battery, but it was changed to murder after the victim died.
