A 20-year-old man shot and killed his teenage brother in a hotel room on the Las Vegas strip, according to police.
The murder took place on Monday at a hotel room at Hilton Grand Vacations, located on the 2600 block of S. Las Vegas Blvd. The hotel is located near the Circus Circus casino.
Chance Wilson was sharing a hotel room with his brother and other family members. The family was gathered around the kitchen table when Wilson walked out of the bedroom holding a firearm and fired one shot, according to Las Vegas Metro Police.
The children’s parents were not present at the time of the shooting.
Police interviewed Wilson’s 13-year-old sister, who said that she thought Chance was playing a joke, according to 8NewsNow. He reportedly said “pow” or “boom” as he fired the shot.
According to 8NewsNow, Chance and his sister tried to take the victim out of the room to get help, but the door closed on them as they were bringing him out, and they didn’t have a key.
The teenage victim, identified as Dailin Wilson, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Chance tried to convince his sister to lie and tell their parents that Dailin shot himself. However, she refused, according to 8NewsNow.
Chance went to the hotel lobby for help, and found a security guard who returned to the room with him. He told the guard that his brother shot himself, according to police.
After the guard opened the door, Chance got a sweatshirt and left. He returned to the hotel when police called his cell phone, according to 8NewsNow. He was arrested without incident.
He allegedly told police that only Dailin Wilson knew he had a gun, which he had pieced together from parts he bought online. Chance Wilson said he kept the chamber empty and didn’t intend to shoot Dailin.
Chance Wilson is now facing one count of murder.
