A Tennessee man burned a Christmas tree and children's presents before being arrested, police say, according to Fox 13 Memphis.
James Walker, 25, who was arrested by the Dyersburg Police Department, is charged with burglary, arson and public intoxication.
According to Fox 13 Memphis, police responded to Greentree Apartments at approximately 12:30 a.m. Dec. 18. Police say a man, later identified as Walker, fled the scene but was soon captured.
Fox 13 Memphis reported that a neighbor told officers that they saw Walker carrying items from the apartment to his car. According to police, Walker removed items from the apartment before wrapping a Christmas tree inside the home with a kids blanket and burned it along with the presents under the tree.
Police say a window at the home was left open to vent the fire, and the home's smoke detector was covered.
None of the people who lived there were home at the time of the incident, according to police. Fox 13 Memphis reported that police say that Walker had an altercation with the tenant and her brother earlier in the day.
The Dyersburg Police Department's Community Changer program replaced the presents and provided a few extra gifts to the family.
