Tennessee Man Charged With Murder After Beating Fiancée To Death With Floor Lamp, Police Say

A man in Tennessee has been arrested after allegedly beating his fiancée multiple times with a floor lamp, leading to her death, according to authorities.
Around 10:00 p.m. on March 15, Memphis police officers received a report of a domestic disturbance at a residence, WHBQ-TV reported.
Inside the home, responding officers said they could hear a woman screaming, “He’s got a gun!"
A man, identified as 63-year-old Norris Lyles, opened the door wearing a bloody t-shirt, police said.
When officers told the suspect to get on the ground, he responded, “You get on the ground!” and then allegedly appeared reach toward his waistband, WHBQ-TV reported.
Police hit Lyles with a taser before taking him into custody and then transporting him to a local hospital for a non-critical condition, officials said.

The victim was found lying in the backyard with cuts to the upper left corner of her head, authorities said.
She was rushed to a local hospital, where she died from her injuries a couple hours later, according to police.

Investigators searched the crime scene and found the suspected murder weapon, a floor lamp with the base covered in blood.
Police said the couple were engaged to be married and lived together at the residence. Officials have disclosed a possible motive for the deadly alleged attack.
Lyles was charged with second-degree murder and assault against a first responder, officials said.
His bond was set at $50,000.
