A 2-year-old had broken ribs, head injuries and bruising when he died and now his mom has been indicted on murder accusations, officials said.
On June 27, the Shelby County District Attorney’s Office in Tennessee announced that Keianna Hatchett, 27, was indicted on murder charges in connection to the death of her 2-year-old child.
On Dec. 1, 2020, Hatchett called police and said she found her son, Kingston Young, unresponsive in the bedroom, prosecutors said. First responders went to the home and pronounced the toddler dead.
Hatchett claims they spent the night at a boyfriend’s apartment and the boy slept on a floor mattress in a spare room, according to prosecutors.
The mom claimed the child was sick before going to bed and she checked on him throughout the night, prosecutors noted.
The next morning, Hatchett said she woke up and found the child unresponsive.
Investigators noted bruises on the child’s chin and forehead. An autopsy later showed older and recent injuries, including hemorrhaging and broken ribs, according to prosecutors.
Hatchett faces charges of first-degree murder in the perpetration of aggravated abuse of a child under 9 and first-degree murder in the perpetration of aggravated neglect of a child under 8. She is being held in jail on $750,000 bond.
