SIBLINGS FACE MURDER CHARGE AFTER COPS SAY THEY ABUSED MOTHER BEFORE HER DEATH
A pair of siblings in Tennessee neglected their mother leading to her death, police say.
Michael Murray, 40, and Karen Murray, 45, were charged with first-degree murder in connection to the death of their mother Sheila June Murray, 70.
The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation and the Johnson City police announced their indictments last week.
After a request by the district attorney, police started to investigate the abuse and neglect of Sheila June Murray in August 2019. She was hospitalized and later died from her injuries, according to police.
Investigators determined Sheila June Murray’s two children were responsible for the abuse that led to her death. Police have not said how the two allegedly abused or neglected their mother before her killing.
The siblings were arrested last week and booked into jail on $250,000 bond.
First-degree murder in Tennessee is punishable by up to life in prison. Though, prosecutors could seek the death penalty under the state code.
