A Texas teen will spend 20 years behind bars for the 2021 beating death of his 6-year-old cousin, according to authorities.
On Aug. 18, 2021, the then 12-year-old boy used a baseball bat to kill his 6-year-old cousin by “smashing” her in the head, WFAA reported.
Once at the scene, first responders administered aid to the child. She was then transported to a local hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
During a hearing, the suspect, now 15, admitted to killing his cousin and he asked the judge to determine his sentence.

The judge sentenced the teen to 20 years in the Texas Juvenile Justice Department, officials said.
Because he is still a minor, the name of the teen was not released.
