A teenager faces a murder charge after selling drugs that led to a person’s overdose death, according to authorities.
On Aug. 29, police in Wichita Falls, Texas, arrested 19-year-old Jakob Joel Blankenship on a murder charge.
Investigators said Blankenship sold counterfeit Percocet pills that were laced with fentanyl. Fentanyl is a powerful opioid that is often mixed with other drugs to enhance the effects, but a small amount can be deadly.
Blankenship sold the pills to 20-year-old Zoe Brewer on April 20, police said.
Around 6 p.m. that same day, police responded to Brewer’s home after her mom found her dead, authorities said. She overdosed less than 90 minutes after buying the drugs, officials said.
Blankenship is being held in a Texas jail on $1 million bail.
