Elderly man kills person who came to check on him, faces murder charge: report
An elderly Texas man faces a murder charge after he allegedly killed a man who stopped by his home for a visit.
Huey Edward Nichols, 85, was charged with murder this week after the victim died. The suspect was initially charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, but the charge was upgraded with the victim’s passing.
The victim has not been named.
Henderson County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a home after Nichols shot through a screen door injuring the victim, according to KLTV.
Nichols fired a single round from a .38-caliber revolver, according to the report.
The victim went to the home to check on the elderly man, KTLV reported. Relatives of the victim said he would visit Nichols unannounced to check on his neighbor.
Police said there were no signs of forced entry, though Nichols said he was threatened, according to KTLV.
Nichols is being held in the Henderson County jail as he awaits his next court hearing.
