A Texas man was found guilty of capital murder after he starved and beat his girlfriend’s 11-year-old son to death in 2020.
On Aug. 29, a jury deliberated for only 15 minutes before convicting 35-year-old Corey Trumbull of capital murder for the death of Logan Cline, the Wichita Falls Times Record News reported. He will be sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole.
During closing arguments, Trumbull’s public defender, Gant Grimes, called Trumbull a “sadistic bastard,” but said Trumbull didn’t intentionally kill Cline. The lawyer claimed Trumbull wanted to keep Cline alive in order to torture him. Because of that, he asked the jury to convict his client of felony murder instead of capital murder.
In February 2020, police discovered the remains of the boy in a car. The Wichita Falls Times Record News reports Cline was killed in December 2019. After the child's death, Trumbull reportedly put ice all over the body, bleached it and then dumped it in the car.
Cline was malnourished and had injuries all over his body at the time of his death.
An autopsy determined he died from blunt force trauma and was 40 pounds under the normal weight for a child his age.
Trubmall forced Cline to sleep under the sink and a bed, according to KAUZ-TV. Due to the severe neglect and mistreatment, Cline experienced seizures and cerebral hemorrhages, leading to his inability to move or communicate.
On February 26, 2020, officers from the Las Vegas Metro Police Department were called to a Walgreens. The call was prompted by Stormy Johnson, Cline’s mother, who sought help inside the store. She said her 15-year-old daughter was present in the car with Trumbull, who spoke with an officer and refuted her claims he assaulted her. However, he acknowledged her bruised eye and injured lip. Trumbull asserted that Johnson had left and was absent for three days before contacting him to be picked up at the Walgreens.
Trumbull also alleged to police that he and Johnson moved to Las Vegas and started doing illegal drugs.

According to officials, Johnson said Trumbull hit her with a stick and “wrapped a metal chain dog leash” around her neck and strangled her as well as beat her and broke multiple bones in her body.
Trumbull allegedly is a white supremacist and told an underage girl he started a polyamorous relationship with that it was important to grow the race, the Wichita Falls Times Record News reported.
Officials said Johnson is also facing charges of murder and tampering with evidence.
