A Texas man has been arrested after he allegedly posed as a minor and planned a sexual meeting with a child predator before fatally shooting him, according to authorities.
Around 4 a.m. on May 29, 2023, officers responded to a report in Houston of an unresponsive man with multiple gunshot wounds, according to the Houston Police Department.
Paramedics also responded to the scene and pronounced the victim, later identified as 37-year-old Sean Showers, dead, officials said.
According to KPRC-TV, James Spencer, 22, was accused of pretending to be a minor in order to meet up with Showers under the guise of a sexual arrangement.
Police claim that Spencer then fatally shot Showers from inside a vehicle while the victim was walking along a roadway.
Spencer allegedly believed law enforcement officials weren’t doing enough to keep child predators behind bars, KPRC reported.
Spencer recent arrest on a murder charge comes nearly nine months after the fatal shooting occurred.
He was booked into the Harris County jail and was being held on a $250,000 bond.

In 2009, Showers pleaded guilty to possessing child pornography, according to the Houston Division of the FBI. He reportedly served time in federal prison, and then failed to register as a sex offender.
In a statement, KPRC reported, Victim Services Director of Houston Crime Stoppers Andy Kahan said the incident was “diabolically cunning” and “stuff you see in movies."
