A Texas woman was arrested for allegedly stabbing her 4-year-old son to death in front of her mother, who now also faces charges in connection with the boy’s murder, police said.

Around 6:45 a.m. on March 13, deputies received a call from Mary Johnson. Johnson said she feared her grandson, Grayson Figueroa had been injured at the hand of his mother, her daughter, Monica Figueroa, according to the Athens Police Department.

Investigators determined Grayson had been killed the day prior to the call, on March 12, and Johnson had witnessed her daughter armed with a knife and on top of a blanket, KLTV reported.

Police said Johnson claimed to hear Grayson screaming before seeing Figueroa cutting at the rolled-up blanket with the knife and she then noticed the screaming stopped.

Figueroa allegedly threatened her mother and told her to leave, which Johnson did, authorities said.

The next morning Johnson returned to the residence in Athens and called police after finding her grandson Grayson dead, officials said.

When officers responded to the house, they found Grayson inside the door, partially covered with a blanket.

Police said Grayson appeared to have died from injuries caused by an “edged weapon,” but details from the autopsy have not been released yet.
