Victim’s body found in shallow grave, Texas man accused of murder
A man in Texas is under arrest after law enforcement located the body of a person who was murdered and then transported to be disposed of on private property.
On July 31, deputies from the Van Zandt County Sheriff’s Office responded to a residence in Pleasant Grove, in southwest Dallas, after receiving a report about a body buried in a shallow grave.
The victim was fatally shot and later identified as Ladarron Perkins.
"It was determined the actual murder had likely occurred in the City of Dallas,” the sheriff's office said. “Dallas PD was contacted but initially declined to participate in the investigation.”
On Aug. 2, authorities took Casey Lynn Spriggs, 45, into custody and booked him into the Van Zandt County Jail and charged him with Perkins’ murder. He is being held on $1 million bond, according to online records.
The sheriff’s office did not say how they connected Spriggs to the crime but noted the investigation continues and more arrests are expected.
“I am impressed and appreciative at the outcome of this investigation,” Van Zandt County Sheriff Steve Hendrix said of the “many hours” law enforcement agencies, including the Texas Rangers and Van Zandt County Criminal District Attorney's Office, worked on the case.
