A Texas woman and her 1-year-old son were found dead inside a vehicle in a park and police say they are investigating the incident as a murder-suicide.

Police recently received a call from the toddler’s father in Houston, according to the Beaumont Police Department.

The man told police that 26-year-old Brianna Monroe sent a text indicating that she was going to kill the child and herself.

Monroe’s family members were trying to reach her, but their calls were going unanswered, officials said.

Authorities issued a Critical Missing alert and started searching for Monroe and her toddler, Giavon August.

During the search, Monroe’s family reportedly tracked her phone to Beaumont Municipal Airport, and a cousin discovered her vehicle and the mother and son's bodies less than a mile away at a Beaumont park, KBMT reported.

Officers responded to the scene and found the vehicle backed into a space in the parking lot with the bodies inside, officials said.

Monroe was behind the wheel and her son was in the back seat, Justice of the Peace Ben Collins Sr. told KFDM. Both had been shot.

Autopsy results were pending.
