Alabama Father ‘Intentionally Killed’ 2-Year-Old Son By Physically Assaulting Him, Authorities Say

An Alabama man is accused of physically assaulting his toddler son and killing him, police said.

Around 2:40 p.m. on July 5, police in Montgomery were called to a home about a deceased person. When officers arrived, they found the baby, 2-year-old Lauren Haggard Jr., dead from serious blunt force trauma, WSFA reported, citing court records.

After a preliminary investigation, officers arrested Lauren Calvin Haggard Sr., 33, and charged him with capital murder.

According to the court documents, Haggard Sr. “intentionally killed the victim by physical assault.”

Investigators did not say what happened before the child was injured. They also didn't say how long the child faced the alleged abuse.

Haggard Sr. was being held without bail in the Montgomery County Detention Facility.
