Two teenagers were shot at a Halloween hayride event in Pennsylvania with one victim dying and the suspect is still at large, police say.
Around 8:15 p.m. Sept. 11, North Versailles police responded to a report at the Haunted Hills Hayride of two 15-year-old boys being shot, the Allegheny County Police Department said in a press release.
Both teens were taken to local hospitals and one of the victims, Steven Eason, was shot in the chest and stomach. Eason died from his injuries, police said.
The second victim was shot in the shoulder and officials said is currently in stable condition.
Detectives began an investigation and learned that Eason had gone to the Haunted Hills Hayride with a group of friends, authorities said. While there, Eason and his friends saw the second victim get into a confrontation with the suspect, police said.
Eason and his friends knew the second victim, so they went over to help him out, officials said.
This is when the suspect pulled a handgun and fired three shots, which hit Eason and the second victim, authorities said.
At that point, the suspect fled the scene and left towards the parking lot, police said.
There were about 50 to 100 people in the area of the shooting, authorities said.
The reason the confrontation started is unknown, police said.
The suspect was described as a black male, 5-feet-9inches to 6-feet tall, slender build, between the ages of 15 and 17 and wearing dark clothing, investigators said.
Police are asking anyone who saw the shooting or may have cell phone video at the time of the shooting to contact the Allegheny County Police Homicide Unit at (833) 255-8477.
