Man killed following child custody exchange in police station parking lot, suspect arrested

A Virginia man was shot and killed during a custody exchange, and police say they have arrested a suspect in connection to the murder.
Around 6:30 p.m. on Jan. 16, an on-duty officer was working in his patrol vehicle in the parking lot of the Appomattox police station when he heard a gunshot, the Richmond Times-Dispatch reported.
The officer immediately exited his car and found a man suffering from a gunshot wound, according to the Richmond Times-Dispatch.
The victim was identified as Stuart D. Jeffries, 33, who died at the scene, the Richmond Times-Dispatch reported.
Corey D. Goodson Sr., 44, was arrested and charged with second-degree murder and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, according to the Richmond Times-Dispatch.
He is currently being held in Chesterfield’s jail without bond, the Richmond Times-Dispatch reported.
Police say the two men were involved in an altercation following a child custody exchange, according to the Richmond Times-Dispatch.
A woman and child who were with Jeffries were not harmed, the Richmond Times-Dispatch reported.
