Security footage shows the disturbing moment a visibly distraught Australian woman sought help in a Paris kebab shop after she says she was sexually assaulted by a mob of men.

A major investigation was launched into the attack, which allegedly took place in the early hours of July 21 in the northern Pigalle district.

According to French authorities, the woman was drinking in the bars and clubs around the Moulin Rouge cabaret on the evening of July 20 before she was confronted by a group of men in an unspecified location, the Daily Mail reported.

The victim told police that the five men of “African appearance” sexually assaulted her around 5 a.m. before she was able to escape and seek shelter in the nearby Dounia kebab shop, where she was confronted by one of her alleged attackers just minutes late, according to authorities.

Security camera footage from the restaurant shows the 25-year-old woman cowering in the shop as she pleads for help as staff and other customers attempt to comfort her.

The footage then shows a man entering the kabob shop and the woman appearing to indicate that he allegedly was one of the guys that sexually assaulted her moments ago, according to reports.

The man then approaches the woman, pats her on the back and places an order for food before a customer takes a swing at him and staff jump in to break the pair up. The man, footage shows, then leaves the restaurant.

Police arrived and spoke with the woman, who reportedly had “her dress inside out.” The woman, who claimed her cell phone was stolen in the alleged attack, was transported to an area hospital.

Officials said the woman was “disoriented and unable to speak a word of French” as she described to police what happened. She was reportedly unable to tell police the exact location or circumstances surrounding the incident.

"Her recollection of the evening is extremely hazy, but she says up to five men raped her," French authorities reportedly said.

Paris prosecutors declined to comment on the incident, but did confirm a judicial enquiry has been opened into the sexual assault allegations.

Officials said no arrests have been made, and they did not release descriptions of any of the suspected attackers.

While the victim had booked a flight home to Australia for the day after the attack, officials said she is now aiding police with the investigation and plans to stay in Paris, the Daily Mail reported.

A spokesperson for the Alliance Paris Police Union said investigators will “do everything to quickly identify the individuals and bring them to justice,” and it is “now essential to work out exactly what happened on that evening, based on CCTV footage.”

The Boulevard de Clinchy — the location of the alleged sexual assault — is less than three miles from the Stade de France, the center point to the Olympics, which open on Friday night.
