Virginia man allegedly killed his girlfriend, then kidnapped her children

A Virginia man has been arrested after he allegedly killed his girlfriend, then took her children, according to police.

Around 11:30 a.m. on Nov. 28, 911 dispatchers in Spotsylvania County, Virginia, received a call saying that the child of a family friend called her, saying her mother was fighting with her boyfriend, according to police.

Deputies from the Spotsylvania County Sheriff's Office were told that two children, 4 and 8, would be in the home.

Deputies conducted a welfare check at a residence located in the 11000 block of Taney Drive in Fredericksburg, Virginia.

When police entered the house, they found a deceased woman with upper body trauma. The victim was later identified as Jordan Diggins, 33. No one else was found at the home, according to the sheriff's office.

Kidnapping

Detectives patrolled the area looking for the suspect, Chris Lee-Thompson Stevens, 28, and the children. A detective spotted the children and Stevens in the woods behind Courthouse Elementary School.

When the officer approached the suspect, he took off with the kids into the woods, according to the sheriff's office.

Detectives found the unharmed children in the Crown Grant subdivision after they had been abandoned, the sheriff's office noted.

A deputy spotted Stevens exiting the woods and getting into a car. Police stopped Stevens and he was arrested.

Stevens was charged with first-degree murder, two counts of abduction and violation of a protective order. He is being held at Rappahannock Regional Jail with no bond.
