Member of the TV show 'Bad Girls Club' shot and killed in Virginia Beach, cops say she was an innocent bystander
A member of the reality television series “Bad Girls Club” was killed in a weekend shooting in Virginia Beach.
The victim was identified as Deshayla E. Harris, 29, of Norfolk, Virginia, according to Virginia Beach police. She appeared on the show that aired on the Oxygen network.
On March 26, Virginia Beach police responded to separate shootings in the popular town during the height of spring break. One of the shootings happened on Atlantic Avenue and several people were hurt in that incident.
Then another shooting happened on 19th Street and police say Harris was a bystander who was shot and killed in that incident.
Then there was a third shooting, during which police shot and killed a suspect on 20th Street. That victim was identified as Donovon W. Lynch, 25, of Virginia Beach.
Police have made three arrests in connection to the first shooting on Atlantic Avenue. Ahmon Jahree Adams, 22, of Chesapeake, Virginia, Nyquez Tyyon Baker, 18, of Virginia Beach, and Devon Maurice Dorsey Jr., 20, of Virginia Beach area all facing several charges of felonious assault, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony and reckless handling of a firearm.
“We now know that started out as a physical fight, an argument into a physical fight that at some point escalated into gunfire,” Virginia Beach Chief Paul Neudigate said at a press conference.
An officer who was near the scene chased one of the suspects down moments after the shooting, Neudigate said.
The shooting of Harris remains under investigation, Neudigate said, and police have yet to make an arrest. He did not say if her shooting was connected to the first incident.
“We do believe that she truly is, at this point in time, an innocent victim struck by stray gunfire,” he said.
The investigation into the police shooting is also ongoing. The commonwealth is also investigating the shooting. The officer has not been named.
