A Virginia man told authorities his girlfriend died from suicide, but police say it was homicide and he shot her to death.
Around 3:30 p.m. on Sept. 11, the Fredericksburg Police Department in Maryland were called to the Riverwood Apartment complex after a neighbor reported hearing a gunshot.
Once at the scene, Amanda Seay, 27, was found dead in the apartment she shared with 26-year-old Christopher Mack Alexander, according to authorities.
Alexander spoke with police and told them Seay died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, officials said.
However, police say an autopsy was done and medical examiners determined Seay’s cause of death was a homicide.
Alexander was arrested on Sept. 15 after police received the autopsy results, but the reason for the shooting remains unclear, police said.
He was charged with second-degree murder, using a firearm in the commission of a felony and discharging a firearm in the city limits and is being held without bond at the Rappahannock Regional Jail, authorities said.
Alexander and Seay lived together in the apartment and have children together, The Free Lance-Star reported.
