Virginia man faces child abuse charges after 4-year-old shot himself with unsecured gun: police

A Virginia man faces charges after a 4-year-old boy accidentally shot himself, police say.
Around 10:35 a.m. May 7, Norfolk Police responded to the Children’s Hospital of the King’s Daughters. Officers received a report of a 4-year-old suffering from a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to the foot, according to police.
Investigators found that the 4-year-old found an unsecured gun in a home and accidentally shot himself.

Darius D. Wilson, 28, was charged with one count of abuse and neglect of children reckless disregard and four counts of abuse and neglect of children for allegedly leaving the child where he could get the gun.
Wilson is currently being held in the Norfolk County Jail with no bond.
