A Virginia man was found dead in a yard and police charged a 33-year-old woman in connection to his murder.
Police said Chantel Annette Canada, 33, intentionally hit the victim with a car and killed him.
Halifax County Sheriff Fred S. Clark said police received a call around 6:30 a.m. May 16 about a man lying in a yard at a residence in Alton, Virginia.
Police arrived shortly after the call and found the victim dead. The name of the victim has not been released.
An investigation began and police determined the man was intentionally struck by a vehicle, police said.
The Gazette-Virginian reported investigators believe an earlier dispute occurred between Canada and the victim before the man was struck with a vehicle.
According to Halifax County Sheriff’s Office Sgt. Thomas Lewis, the man was an acquaintance of Canada.
Police said that a 2015 Hyundai four-door car was taken from the crime scene as evidence.
“It’s still early in the investigation and other factors are being looked into. It doesn’t look like there have been any calls of service to that residence in at least 10 years," Lewis told the news group.
Canada was charged with second-degree murder and is being held at Blue Ridge Regional Jail without bond, police said.
