A Virginia man got into a fight with his wife, killed her and then went to a police station to confess to the crime, police say.

Around 7 a.m. on July 19, the Augusta County Emergency Operations Center received a call from the Stanton Police Department after Dwayne L. White, 41, walked into their station, according to authorities.

Officers said White told them he got into a fight overnight with his wife at their Virginia home and a gun was fired during the altercation.

White said he left the scene of the shooting and later went to the police station, The News Leader reported.

Police headed to the home immediately and discovered the body of his wife, Kelin Mirei Pacheco-White, 38, with multiple gunshot wounds.

White has been charged with murder, as well as possession of a firearm by a convicted violent felon and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, authorities said.

Officials said he is being held at Middle River Regional Jail with no bond.
