Immediately after stabbing his wife, a man handed over his wallet to a family member and fled the area, police said.
He wasn’t gone for long as police said they arrested the suspected killer last week.
Around noon on July 17, police in Fairfax County, Virginia, responded to a home for a reported stabbing. When police arrived, they found Evelin Molina dead in an upstairs bedroom. Police said she had multiple stab wounds to her upper body.
She lived at the home with her husband, Hernandez Mejia.
A family member had received a call from Mejia to say he stabbed his wife, according to police. When the relative got to the scene, Mejia gave his wallet and then fled the area.
Police found a knife in the bedroom and said the couple’s children were not home at the time of the incident.
No motive has been released in the killing.
The next day, police spotted Mejia traveling on I-85 in South Carolina and he was arrested. He awaits extradition back to Virginia on a second-degree murder charge.
