The Savior Complex: Vladimir Putin Compares Himself to Jesus in Confrontation With 'Satanic' West
Russian President Vladimir Putin recently drew parallels between himself and Jesus Christ, highlighting the necessity of combating what he perceives as the "Satanic" values of the West.
Speaking during a video call to inaugurate several youth centers near Moscow, Putin referenced biblical quotes to justify his stance, particularly in relation to his assertive actions in Ukraine.
In a discussion with high-ranking Russian officials, Putin evoked the story of Jesus recruiting his disciples from among fishermen in Galilee.
Drawing a parallel, Putin emphasized the importance of protecting Russian youth from what he sees as the corrosive influence of the West, similar to how Jesus entrusted his disciples with spreading his teachings.
Putin clarified that his references to Christianity were not intended to promote a particular religious doctrine exclusively, mentioning Russia's other traditional religions such as Islam, Judaism and Buddhism.
With approximately 70% of Russian citizens identifying as Christian, Putin's utilization of religious rhetoric has become a significant tool in advancing the Kremlin's agenda.
