A woman was repeatedly raped for years by a former official in Washington state and the assaults started when she was 4-years-old, authorities said.
The now 18-year-old victim told detectives that former Zillah, Washington Mayor Gary Vyrle Clark started molesting and raping as a child when her family would visit his home.
The last instance the victim could recall was in 2011, when she was 8 years old, according to the Yakima Herald. The former mayor came into her room when she was sleeping and tried to rape her, authorities stated.
During those four years, the victim estimated there were more than 50 assaults.
Clark was arrested by police last Thursday on suspicion of three counts of child rape, the Herald reported. At the time of his arrest, Clark, 74, was out on $20,000 bond on charges of rape of a child and indecent exposure from March 5.
Clark’s first arrest motivated this second woman to come forward and tell her story, according to the Herald.
In the first case, surveillance cameras caught Clark exposing himself to a 4-year-old girl on more than one occasion and masturbating in front of the girl, according to the Herald.
Clark was the landlord for this child’s mother and was at their house doing repairs.
The judge in the case was concerned about more victims coming forward, according to the Herald. Clark’s bail was increased by another $10,000 based on the new charges.
