An Indiana man has been arrested after he allegedly killed his wife, who gave birth recently and was looking into getting a divorce, according to authorities.
Around 7:20 a.m. on June 1, officers responded to a home in Indianapolis after receiving a report of a person shot, according to the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department.
At the scene, responding officers located an adult victim, later identified as 26-year-old Amber Cooley. She died from an apparent gunshot wound.
Officers found a firearm in the woman's home, and they arrested the victim’s husband, 25-year-old Robert Cooley, on suspicion of murder.
According to a probable cause affidavit obtained by WXIN-TV, Amber Cooley had been beaten and her throat was slashed.
Police claimed in the affidavit that Robert Cooley had FaceTimed his brother before officers arrived and told him: “I just killed Amber, bro.”
The suspect, the affidavit alleges, also admitted to officers, “I took my wife’s life,” and “I did something bad. I need to go to jail.”
Court documents claim the suspect became “very upset" when he and his wife argued the day before the killing, and the two were known to have had “ongoing domestic issues.”
In an interview with WXIN, Amber Cooley’s mother claimed her daughter asked her the night before she was killed for help in getting paperwork to “help her get out of the situation” and end her marriage.
