He Was Swerving From Lane To Lane Before Police Pulled Him Over. Then They Found The Guns.

A Wisconsin man who was arrested for operating while intoxicated was found to have a sawed-off shotgun and other weapons in his possession, police say.

Police arrested Christopher D. Rice on Feb. 5, when he was traveling southbound on STH 36 in the village of Waterford at approximately 2:30 a.m. after swerving in and out of lanes.

The truck wound up going eastbound on North English Settlement Avenue on County Highway J at a clip of 75 mph in a 55 mph zone, police said.

The truck eventually pulled off to the shoulder, where officers investigated the incident.

Police discovered Rice, 36, in the truck and, when he opened the window, the officer reported smelling intoxicant inside. Police said Rice had slurred speech and his eyes were red and glassy. Rice claimed he had not consumed alcohol.

Once other officers arrived, Rice would not follow their directions, according to police. Police said Rice was asked to get out of the truck more than 20 times without complying. Police notified him that he was under arrest for obstruction but said he still refused to get out of the truck.

Police then asked the passenger to get out, which they did, and police saw an open container in the truck. Rice then exited the vehicle and police said they spotted more open containers.

When officers arrested Rice, they found two handguns on him, and Rice admitted that there were more guns in the truck, according to authorities.

Officers said they found two open bottles of beer, a loaded Hi-Point 9mm semi-automatic handgun, a loaded sawed-off short barreled Black Aces 12-gauge shotgun and multiple rounds of ammunition.

Police took Rice to the hospital for a standardized field sobriety test and blood draw. After, getting the evidence, police took Rice to Racine County Jail.

Rice is charged with operating while intoxicated first, obstructing, possession of a short-barreled shotgun and armed while intoxicated, according to Fox 6 Now.
