A woman who was caught on video surveillance brazenly shooting another woman to death on a New York City street over the summer has been arrested in Florida, police said.
The suspect, Claudia Banton, was taken into custody in Jacksonville, Florida, on Nov. 8, according to the New York Post
Banton was arrested in connection with the Aug. 4 shooting death of Delia Johnson, 42.
Cops have been looking for Banton since August, and described her as a woman in her mid-twenties with blonde hair and a heavy build.
New York City Police Commissioner Dermot Shea announced the arrest on Twitter.
“You can run, but the long arm of the law will find you,” Shea wrote. “The woman responsible for the August 4th murder of a #Brooklyn woman has been apprehended by our partners in Jacksonville, Florida.”
In the surveillance video, and reported by FrontPageDetectives, Johnson is seen speaking to a group of people in the Crown Heights neighborhood when Banton allegedly walks up, pulls out a gun and shoots the woman point-blank in the back of the head.
The women police said is Banton is then seen shooting the victim several more times, including in the leg, cops say. The shooter got into a white vehicle parked nearby and drove away.
Johnson was pronounced dead at Interfaith Medical Center a short time later.
According to Johnson’s family, both she and Banton attended a funeral earlier the day of the murder, according to Fox News
“She was at a funeral earlier in the evening for an old neighborhood friend to pay her respects, and then this happened,” said Johnson’s brother Mathis Johnson, according to Fox News. “It was horrible. That lady executed my sister.”
