A mother in Kentucky has been arrested after authorities say she allegedly put her newborn baby inside a trash bag before stashing it.
On July 6, police responded to an apartment complex in Louisville after calls reporting a baby had been placed inside a bag and hidden inside a closet, according to an arrest citation obtained by WAVE.
Officers located the bag, which appeared to have blood and flies inside, in the trunk of a car on July 7, officials said.
The baby’s mother, 22-year-old Daira Mejia Aguilar, told police she had put the baby inside the trunk before officers arrived, according to authorities.
Police said Aguilar gave birth to the baby on July 2. According to officials, she told police she then wrapped the newborn in a blanket and put the baby inside a trash bag before stashing the bag in the closet.
According to WDRB, authorities said the baby appeared to be a “full-term newborn in the early stages of decomposition.”

Aguilar was arrested and charged with abuse of a corpse since, officials said, it's unclear whether the baby was born alive.
Aguilar entered a not guilty plea at her arraignment and was placed on home arrest, officials said. Her next court date is scheduled for July 16.
