Michigan woman accused of drunk driving after she picks up boyfriend who crashed car while allegedly intoxicated
A Michigan woman was arrested on suspicion of drunk driving after her boyfriend got into a car crash while allegedly under the influence and she came to pick him up, police said.
On Jan. 1, a 34-year-old man rolled his Pontiac G6 in Maple Forest and a Michigan State Police trooper and a Crawford County sheriff’s deputy responded to the scene around 3 p.m., The Detroit News reported.
A passerby who called 911 about the crash told the authorities a man and woman were sitting in a silver Jeep Commander at the scene. They told the passerby they would return and then drove away.
As the trooper and caller spoke at the scene, the Jeep passed by the crash site without stopping. The trooper got in his vehicle and pulled the Jeep’s occupants over after the SUV crossed the center line.
The trooper questioned the couple and learned the 35-year-old woman driving the Jeep picked up her boyfriend after he called her following the crash involving his Pontiac G6.
Both were given field sobriety tests and arrested on suspicion of drunk driving — reportedly the woman’s third DUI offense. She faces additional charges of driving with a suspended license and obstruction of justice. Her boyfriend is also accused of probation violation and failure to report a crash, according to The Detroit News.
The suspect's name was not released.
