A Texas woman was arrested after police allege she fatally shot her ex-husband because she caught him on the phone with another woman.
Around 10:30 p.m. on April 19, officers responded to a home in Plano, where they found 55-year-old David Nunley with an apparent gunshot wound to his upper body, according to the Plano Police Department.
Officials pronounced him dead at the scene.
According to an arrest affidavit obtained by KDFW-TV, the victim initially called police and reportedly said, “I've been shot.”
Officers located Nunley’s body in the garage with a cell phone nearby, but they were unable to find any weapons.
Investigators identified 38-year-old Merridith Nunley, the victim’s ex-wife, as the primary suspect and believed the shooting to be a “domestic violence incident.”
According to the affidavit, Nunley allegedly admitted to a family friend that she shot the victim, and that individual reported it to police.
The family friend also told police the victim and suspect were no longer in a relationship, but they were “still kind of living together.”
Nunley and the victim reportedly divorced in 2022 and shared custody of their three children, who were not home during the incident.
Nunley told the family friend that she killed her ex-husband because she caught him on the phone with another woman, the affidavit claims.

Authorities were able to track down the suspect’s phone to an apartment parking lot and responded to the area.
According to the affidavit, Nunley gave officers varying stories, claiming she shot her ex in self-defense and that her ex-husband "lost his temper" and "got physical with me."
She went on to say that she was “just in a trance” when she allegedly shot the victim and asked how he was doing.
