WWIII Imminent? Putin Allegations Against West Raise Risk of Russian Retaliation, Expert Warns
Amidst the aftermath of a devastating terror attack in Russia, questions remain about the potential global repercussions, with some experts even hinting at the possibility of World War III looming on the horizon.
Following Russian President Vladimir Putin's accusations against Ukraine for orchestrating the attack, which has been claimed by the ISIS terror group, concerns were raised regarding the escalating tensions.
Professor Anthony Glees, a prominent figure in politics and the director of the Center for Security and Intelligence Studies at the University of Buckingham, has sounded the alarm. He warns that Putin's insinuations involving the United States and the United Kingdom have placed the world in a dangerous situation.
"This is in itself a serious escalation in the war and one which will have the most serious consequences," Glees emphasized in an interview with the Daily Star.
Putin's ominous vow of "oblivion" for the assailants responsible for the deaths of over a hundred people at a concert hall only adds fuel to the already raging fire.
Glees speculates that if Russia were to conquer Ukraine, there exists a genuine risk of further expansion into the Baltic States, with Putin potentially utilizing the Kaliningrad enclave as a strategic launch-pad for military operations aimed at intimidating NATO forces.
The possibility of direct confrontation between Russia and NATO, a scenario with the potential to spiral into a third world war, is no longer a distant speculation.
