Around 1 a.m. on Sept. 5, the Morgan County Sheriff’s Department in West Virginia was sent for a welfare check. While deputies were on the way, they were told a stabbing had just happened.
A large group of people flagged the deputies down at the scene. A man was covered in blood in the area and another person was on the ground, according to the sheriff’s office.
The suspect, Gabriel James Cardwell, was also holding a knife, deputies said.
Deputies tried to provide care to the victim, but he was pronounced dead at the scene. The victim was identified as Scott Allen Mullen, 47.
Cardwell was arrested and charged with murder. He is being held in jail without bond.
No motive has been released for the alleged stabbing.
