A Las Vegas Man Hired a Hitman to Kill His Wife. Then, He Killed the Contracted Killer.
A man from Las Vegas who tied the knot six times, and had most of his wives die under mysterious circumstances, has been convicted by a court on murder charges.
Thomas Randolph was sentenced to 60 years in jail by a Clark County judge for the murder of Sharon Randolph, his wife, and the hitman he hired to kill her, 8 News Now reported.
The murder happened in 2008, and initially appeared to be a case of home invasion, People reported. Sharon Randolph had just returned from a date night with her husband when she was fatally shot in her own home.
Thomas Randolph told authorities that after finding his wife dead, he shot the 'intruder' who was wearing a ski mask, Las Vegas Review-Journal reported. Prosecutors stated that Thomas Randolph double-crossed Michael Miller, the hit man, by killing him as soon as he completed his job.
Investigators found that Thomas Randolph had been married six times, and only two of his ex-wives are still alive, People reported. Four of his past spouses died under mysterious circumstances, the outlet reported.
Miller and Thomas Randolph allegedly met at a gas station and struck up a friendship, Las Vegas Sun reported. Investigators assumed that Thomas Randolph convinced Miller to commit the crime.
Thomas Randolph became the main suspect in the 2008 killings, based on investigation, and went to trial in 2017, 8 News Now reported.
Prosecutors revealed during the trial that Thomas Randolph was set to receive a $300,000 payout for the insurance taken out on Sharon Randolph's name, Las Vegas Review-Journal reported.
The prosecutors also brought to focus that in 1986, Thomas Randolph stood trial for the death of his second wife, Becky Gault in Utah, Las Vegas Sun reported. He was acquitted of all charges when a coroner declared Gault's death to be a suicide.
The victim's daughter told the grand jury that the couple had been fighting on May 8, the day Sharon Randolph was shot holding a doggy bag in her hands, Las Vegas Sun reported.
Thomas Randolph was found guilty of first-degree murder and conspiracy to commit murder in 2017 for the deaths of Sharon Randolph and Miller by a jury, 8 News Now reported. He was sentenced to death.
The Nevada Supreme Court reversed Thomas Randolph's 2017 conviction, citing that the jury should have not heard about Gault's case, 8 News Now reported.
A second trial took place, and in August 2023, another jury found Thomas Randolph guilty of two counts of murder and one count of conspiracy to commit murder for the 2008 deaths, Las Vegas Review-Journal reported. District Court Judge Tierra Jones sentenced him to 60 years to life.
Thomas Randolph continues to proclaim his innocence, Las Vegas Review-Journal reported. "I didn’t kill Sharon," he said. "I had nothing to do with this."
